Field notes and information

This species is endemic to Crete. It is widespread and very common in June.

Identification & Similar species: No other similar species fly on Crete.

Distribution & Flight: Endemic to Crete where it is very common in June.

Habitat & Behaviour: Dry rocky grassy places on slopes at all levels. Frequently feeds on Thymus. The habitat is generally covered in spiny cushion forming plants with sparse grasses between. Butterflies are concentrated along road, river and path edges where nectar plants can get a hold.

Variation: It is very variable although we didn't see any extreme variation.
