Field notes and information

One of the three species of Euchloe recently given specific status from the Canaries. See Gran Canaria green striped white E. grancanariensis for more details.

Identification & Similar species: There are no similar species on Tenerife.

Distribution & Flight: Only found high on Tenerife. Flies from April at lower levels (1500m) and into the summer. I found several individuals at much higher levels in April - upto 3555m at the top of the cable car on Mt. Teide. My highest ever butterfly sighting!

Habitat & Behaviour: Open areas at and above the treeline where the yellow flowered larval food plant Descurainia bourgeana is widespread and common.
