Field notes and information

Formerly considered a subspecies of the Lulworth skipper T. acteon it is now often recognised as a species.

Identification & Similar species: Unmistakable - it's the only golden skipper found on the Canary Islands.

Distribution & Flight: Confined to the western Canary Islands of Tenerife, Gran Canaria, La Plama, Gomera and Hierro where it is found upto 1000m. It flies in several broods throughout the year except in winter.

Habitat & Behaviour: Local amongst trees and scrub in grassy flowery places. In April when I found it it rested frequently on rocks presumably to warm up.
