Field notes and information

ARIZONA April 2015: We only found a few examples of this magnificant species. And only one of those stopped to pose nicely for us - taking salts from stagnant creek water and then posing on nearby bushes. Unfortunately it was the oldest individual we found, the others appearing relatively fresh.

It flies confidently and powerfully, twisting and turning through dense bushes somehow navigating its enormous form through the tightest spaces. Not surprisingly the broad yellow stripe is highly distinctive in flight.
