This is a widespread species over much of southern
and eastern Europe. It is not often common though but usually there are
a few to be seen feeding at flowers at any given site. It frequents lush
meadows with flowers. It is distinguished from its close relative the
Lesser Marbled Fritillary, Brenthis ino, by its larger size and
the underside rectangular marking outside the cell. This is half shaded
with brown/ purple in daphne, clear cream in ino. |
