Field notes and information

Local in a small range limited to the Julien and Karwanken alps of Slovenia and neighboring Italian mountains.

Identification & Similar species: Very similar to the other brassy ringlets E. cassioides group. It appears that this species does not share a range with any others of the group. It is generally slightly smaller and has small pupilled spots on the upperside with little red-orange on the hindwing and a grey underside with a few tiny, or no, spots.

Females are more orange than red. They are also paler brown on the underside.

Distribution & Flight: Endemic to the mountains of NW Slovenia in the Julien (Triglav national park) and Karwanken Alps and in neighbouring Italy. It flies in July and August from around 1500m to high altitudes >2200m.

Habitat & Behaviour: Flies low over short turf above the tree line.
