The False Marbled Skipper replaces the Southern
Marbled Skipper (C. boeticus) in north Africa. It also flies on
one or two of the Greek islands, effectively confining boeticus
to the south and the east. It is very similar to that butterfly. As
usual for Carcharodus, it is very variable and difficult to pick
out constant features to differentiate them from close relatives. It
flies in dry places with grasses and flowers, usually around margins of
scrub or woodland.
