This is a rather dubious species. Infact I've heard it said it has been demoted to a subspecies of the Chalk Hill Blue, L. coridon. A helpful correspondent has given me the reference: Phegea 29/2 1 VI 2002, Coutsis et al.). I'm pretty certain the butterfly doesn't mind this demotion from species and it is good that it appears to finally have been cleared up. In reality I'm not sure if these really are the entity philippi. Of course I don't have a photo of a male upperside which is "easier" to tell apart but these females were flying with males that I considered to be philippi. These were remarkably similar to normal coridon but lacked the yellowish reflections that are seen in coridon at certain angles.

If anyone can enlighten me about the latest classification and identification information I'd be grateful to receive it. Thanks.
