This species can be confused with the larger Large
Wall Brown, L. maera. The current species is somewhat smaller and
has is much darker, lacking the extensive orange areas of maera.
The diagnostic feature is the hindwing. The discal area is separated
from the post discal area by a distinct line in petropolitana.
This separates the furrier, darker discal area from the relatively bald
and paler post discal area. It is found in Scandinavia where it is
widespread at all altitudes and in the mountains of the Alps,
Carpathians, Pyrenees and the Balkans. |
