| This is a lovely species. It is an
attractive very bright greenish off-yellow, the colour isn't really caught
on these photos. It flies fast over dry rocky places with sparse grasses.
It settles only occasionally to feed or lay eggs unless the (rather too
frequent) clouds come obscure the sun. In such dull conditions they would
rest on the ground allowing approach for photography, sometimes. It
flies only in small regions of northern and southern Greece and FYROM
(Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia). It
differs from its relative the Greenish Black Tip, Elphinstonia
charlonia, in a number of features. That species is slightly larger,
more pointed wings and much greener. There should never be any coynfusion
though as their range do not over lap. Charlonia flies in southern Spain
and north Africa only. |
