The additional
white basal disk is present in both specimens. The male on the
left has the characteristic black spot in the centre. See below.

A widespread species. I suspect it is often
overlooked as it is so similar to the High Brown Fritillary, A.
adippe. See that species for differences. It flies in open flowery
places usually with woodland in the vicinity which presumably provides
some habitat for the larval foodplant Violet, Viola ssp.
