This is one of the largest of the Erebias.
It is boldly marked. Distinctive features are the checkered fringes and
on the bold white discal marks on the underside. It is widespread from
the Alps and eastwards and in Scandinavia. Generally it is found at
moderate altitudes but it also spreads to much lower altitudes than most
other Erebias.
