This is one of the largest of the Erebias. It is boldly marked. Distinctive features are the checkered fringes and on the bold white discal marks on the underside. It is widespread from the Alps and eastwards and in Scandinavia. Generally it is found at moderate altitudes but it also spreads to much lower altitudes than most other Erebias.
