This is one of a group of very difficult species. Refer to the Rock Grayling, Hipparchia alcyone, for more information about identification.

This species is one of central Europe, Italy and the Balkans. It is rather large and can be seen flying amongst the trees of open light woodland, and further north and east in open places of denser forests.
