A very distinctive blue. The scalloped hindwings are very distinctive in this species and the female upperside is unique and unmistakable. The males are of a bright powder blue. Both sexes are large.

It flies across much of central eastern and south eastern Europe but it seems to be very local and uncommon. In western Europe it flies in northern Italy, northern Spain and southern France. I've also found it in the Rhône valley in Switzerland.
