We found this commonly across Crete in June 2004. It flies just about anywhere over the ubiquitous bone dry countryside but also sparingly amongst the greener cultivated areas. It feeds on any flowers it can find which is usually Thyme (Thymus) owing to its wide distribution. In the high temperatures they are very sensitive and difficult to approach.

In all intents and purposes this is identical to most of the Hipparchia that spread across Mediterranean Europe. However it is the only one that occurs on Crete, greatly aiding identification!
