This attractive butterfly is
found Corsica and Sardinia. We only found it at higher levels (1000m and
above) although it is supposed to fly from sea level. It flies locally
around Mt Gennargentu on Sardinia but we never found it commonly.
It is not clear if it is
a fully distinct species from the Elban Heath, C. elbana. This
butterfly flies just east of Corsica and Sardinia on the small Isle of
Elba and the immediately neighbouring Italian mainland. They are
immediately and completely distinguishable from one another but there is
a school of thinking that in fact they are so closely related that the
term subspecies is better used. Personally I prefer to treat them as
full species because I've seen them both!!!
