Bouches du Rhône, France, April 2004 (f)

This delightful butterfly is widespread, common and often encountered across most of Europe. It is absent from north Africa, parts of southern Spain and central Scandinavia. The males are particularly distinctive with bright orange patches on the forewing. This makes them instantly distinguishable from the other White species with which it flies - of the genuses Artogeia, Euchloe and Pontia.
