This butterfly looks very much like armoricanus to me, but there is a suspicion of a low altitude and early alveus.

Macedonia, Greece, July 2004

Very extensive basal scaling.

I invite comment on this butterfly. It is of course possible I've mixed both species together but of course I have my reasons for believing them to be armoricanus. These two species fly together over much of Spain, southern and central France and the Alps, armoricanus extending to Poland and Greece and eastwards. They both fly in high summer.
