ssp. centralhispaniae
with bolder upperside spots and markings.
This is one of the larger Pyrgus species.
It is large. Generally the upperside spots are rather small, except in
the subspecies centralhispaniae which has larger bolder spots.
This subspecies is found in Spain and increasingly rarely eastwards into
northern Italy. Elsewhere in Europe the nominate subspecies alveus
is found northward through France and Germany to Poland through
all of eastern Europe down to Greece. Other subspecies are found in
Scandinavia and north Africa.
