A very local species of north Africa. In Morocco
it is found in parts of the High Atlas and in the Anti Atlas mountains.
It is similar to its cousin the Martin's Blue, Plebejus martini.
The notable difference is the generally heavier markings on the
underside, especially the size of the eye spots which have broad white
boarders. allardi is also larger. We've seen martini so I
know this difference exists but have no photographs so can't illustrate
it. To be honest, until we'd found both I wasn't sure which one I had
found first!
I did have much better photographs than these above but I managed to
erase the video - my only ever video accident. I also lost all my Azanus
jesous footage so I consider myself lucky to have just 15 seconds of
this butterfly at the very end of one video tape. The pictures are
recorded on VHS but I've no idea how to get these back into digital
format so I can't share them with you unless you pop round for a cuppa. |
