Field notes and information

Now considered a separate species from the Russian heath C. leander.

Identification & Similar species: Similar to the Russian heath C. leander but with a broad white band on the underside hindwing.

Distribution & Flight: Found from western Serbia to NW Greece. It flies in June.

Habitat & Behaviour: Grassy slopes and meadows, near woodland. Attracted to bramble flowers. Frequently rests on leaves of low branches and bushes. Seeks shade under leaves in the heat of the day.
